Do Web apps trump native applications?

The rise of HTML5 is making Web applications a more attractive option for developers, writes Justin James. The standard's offline-usage options, performance improvements, advanced graphics capabilities and desktop-quality interface options mean that there's now little advantage to developing desktop-specific apps, James argues. "[O]ther than certain specialized or niche scenarios ... it is very difficult for me to recommend building native applications," he writes.
