OSTP director urges power-grid upgrades

Extreme-weather events such as Hurricane Sandy demonstrate the need for the U.S. to upgrade its electricity grid, says John Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. A report issued by the National Science and Technology Council predicts that 15.5 million "smart meters" for electricity will be installed in the U.S. by 2015.
