U.S. home prices post biggest advance in 6 years

House prices increased 6.8% in December compared with December 2011, the biggest year-over-year gain in six years, according to the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller home-price index. Higher demand and shrinking inventory drove the increase. New-home sales climbed 28.9% last month compared with January 2012, the Commerce Department says.
