Va. city manager's budget would add $21M in revenue

Alexandria, Va., City Manager Rashad Young has proposed an operating budget of more than $626 million that includes a 3-cent increase in real estate property tax and a 25-cent increase in motor-vehicle tax. The increases would provide an additional $21.1 million in revenue, but there is still a projected gap of $31 million, which Young says he addressed by balancing fiscal needs, affordability and the strategic plan.
