Bloomberg foundation gives $100 million to fund U.N. polio fight

Bloomberg Philanthropies is joining the United Nations in its goal to wipe out polio by giving $100 million to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced in an op-ed jointly written with Bill Gates. Efforts will focus on erasing polio in Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan, the last three countries where the disease exists. Members of the initiative include UNICEF, the World Health Organization and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
