Institute to explore, advance pediatric oncology

Phoenix Children's Hospital is working with the University of Arizona College of Medicine and Translational Genomics Research Institute to advance the field of pediatric oncology. The partnership will create the Ronald A. Matricaria Institute of Molecular Medicine, which will employ pediatric specialists in oncology and genomics and use advanced imaging technologies such as PET/CT to advance research and conduct clinical trials to explore the underlying genetic and molecular mechanisms of pediatric cancer. Officials say the hospital's use of Image Gently protocols and advanced technology has allowed it to minimize radiation dose and limit use of sedation for imaging.
