LeFevre: USPSTF supplement recommendation is a good move

U.S. Preventive Services Task Force co-vice chair Michael LeFevre, M.D., applauded the task force's recommendation that most postmenopausal women should not take daily supplements of vitamin D and calcium for the primary prevention of fractures. He said despite being routine practice for years, evidence shows the supplements are not effective, although calcium and vitamin D still are important for bone health.
