Rentech shutters Colo. plant, cuts 65 jobs

Los Angeles-based alternative-energy firm Rentech will shutter a product demonstration plant in Commerce City, Colo., and cut 65 jobs as part of an effort to scale back its research-and-development spending. The company may also offload the Colorado facility, along with about 450 acres of property in Natchez, Miss., that had been earmarked for a production plant. Closure of the Colorado facility is expected to bring down Rentech's R&D costs from $21 million in 2012 to $10 million this year.
