Sequester measures fail, cuts are set to begin

Sequestration cuts are to begin today, following failure in the Senate of two bills that would have replaced the automatic, across-the-board cuts. Democrats advanced a bill that would have included tax increases and spending cuts while a Republican measure focused on trimming spending. It's unclear if lawmakers will craft new legislation aimed at halting sequestration once it's under way.
