Smulyan: FM on smartphones is "game changer" for country stations

Country music radio stations are losing loyal listeners when they leave their cars as they increasingly turn to mobile devices at home and on the go, Edison Research's Larry Rosin said at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, Tenn. Stations need to be "easily available and top of mind" for users of those devices, Rosin added. Emmis Communications CEO Jeff Smulyan, in his address to the seminar, said a deal with Sprint to make FM stations available on smartphones is a "game changer for our industry" and a potential "major revenue source for an industry that desperately needs it."
