IOSCO envisions "bottom up" role for industry in clearing derivatives

The International Organization of Securities Commissions released final recommendations for mandatory clearing of off-exchange derivatives contracts. Banks and clearinghouses should have a "bottom up" role, enabling them to clear products after gaining regulatory approval; regulators should be able to mandate that certain classes of products be cleared, IOSCO said.
