Houston Zoo's giraffe euthanized after battle with severe arthritis

Kiva, the Houston Zoo's 16-year-old Masai giraffe, was euthanized Thursday morning due to chronic degenerative arthritis. In February, Kiva's front right hoof joint was fused and he was fitted with a special shoe, a procedure performed on his left front leg last year. Despite the surgery, Kiva's condition worsened.
