Social media may make company websites unnecessary, Facebook exec says

The increasing popularity of the social Web could mean that companies might someday no longer need a branded website, says Stephen Haines, Facebook's commercial director for the U.K. Some brands already have more "likes" on their Facebook pages than they have monthly website visitors, Haines says. Still, it's unclear whether companies would be willing to surrender control of their customer communications to the social giant, Stephen Shankland writes.
