Neb. ethanol producer faces challenging period

The Bridgeport Ethanol plant in Nebraska is still running despite posting a net loss for 2012 and January this year, said General Manager Ted Free. "This is a commodity-based business and we're trying to be as efficient as possible, but it's a tough time for industry right now," Free said. The plant has sustained itself by selling its distillers dried grains with solubles directly to nearby feedlots and by finding ways to extract more ethanol from corn.
