As teachers in Vancouver, British Columbia, went on strike this week, officials were working to ensure that students who participate in school breakfast and lunch programmes would not go hungry. While parents have been told not to let their children go to school during the three-day strike, officials at some schools expect as many as 100 students to show up. At one school, arrangements have been made to offer breakfast at a nearby community centre. Others, however, say they will not be able to offer school meals.
