Railroads: Energy firms' hope for oil shipments to U.S.

Energy companies that seek to transport petroleum and petroleum products from Canadian oil sands to the U.S. are increasingly choosing railroads as the Keystone XL pipeline's future remains unclear. The flexibility of freight railroads is a major factor for more crude-by-rail shipments as markets "throughout North America, including the Gulf Coast area," could be reached, according to a draft U.S. State Department report.
