Be cautious about making spontaneous comments

When sales managers speak, salespeople listen -- even if the managers don't intend for their comments to be interpreted as official company policy, writes Janet Spirer of Sales Horizons. That's one of the potential problems with making off-the-cuff remarks, she notes. "While not necessarily a negative, an off-the-cuff comment can often have more influence than the sales manager intended," she writes.
