Verizon Communications reportedly has stepped up its efforts to resolve the joint ownership structure of Verizon Wireless with Vodafone, which holds a 45% stake in the venture, according to a published report. The parties have reportedly held on-again and off-again talks in which Verizon sought to buy out Vodafone. "Verizon wants to control what is genuinely the best telecom asset on the planet," said Jonathan Chaplin, an analyst at New Street Research. In the most recent talks, which broke down in December, the companies also reportedly discussed the possibility of a full merger. Verizon declined comment.
