Slaying of Miss. mayoral candidate not a hate crime, police say

Friends of slain Clarksdale, Miss., mayoral candidate Marco McMillian say he was romantically involved with the man charged with his murder, Lawrence Reed. Reed's friends denied he is gay and suggested he panicked after McMillian made sexual advances. McMillian's family members say the murder should be investigated as a hate crime, something local authorities have so far not done.
