Cardiovascular societies publish consensus on TAVR programs

A coalition of medical organizations including SCAI has contributed to a consensus statement outlining TAVR program procedures and requirements. SCAI Past President Dr. Carl Tommaso, who led the consensus document writing committee, outlined the importance of having a well-rounded team, with collaboration between interventionalists and cardiothoracic surgeons at its heart. "This is a technology in its infancy. Because of the sophistication and the complexity of the procedure, it requires a lot of different minds," Tommaso said. The document also specifies facility requirements, including a cardiac cath lab or cath lab/operating room hybrid.
