FDA: Caramel coloring is safe in soft drinks

The FDA said it is reviewing a petition from the Center for Science in the Public Interest that calls for a ban on chemicals used to create a caramel color in soft drinks, although the drinks are safe. "A consumer would have to consume well over a thousand cans of soda a day to reach the doses administered in the studies that have shown links to cancer in rodents," said FDA spokesman Doug Karas.
