DIRECTV CFO sees major programming cost hikes as "new norm"

The huge spikes in programming costs passed onto pay-TV providers are becoming the "new norm" in the industry, said DIRECTV Chief Financial Officer Patrick Doyle. "It behooves the industry to try to match up a little better with [programming] cost increases," Doyle said at an investors meeting last week. Last month, DIRECTV predicted that programming costs per subscriber would rise 8% this year.
