Adult congenital heart disease admissions increase

Data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample of congenital heart disease cases from 1998 to 2010 showed that adult admission volume increased 87.8% compared with 32.8% for pediatric admissions in the second half of the study. The scope of medical comorbidity rose for both adult and pediatric patients but was larger among adults, researchers reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association and at the American College of Cardiology meeting.
