BNSF's $500 million rail project in California moved closer to reality after it received approval from Los Angeles Harbor Commissioners. An estimated 1,500 jobs are expected to be derived from the project, which will develop a 185-acre site and make it easier to get cargo to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Construction could start later this year. The project is "the right choice for green growth in Los Angeles and will be a new environmental model for the rest of the country," said BNSF Chairman and CEO Matthew Rose.
