Utah schools align math curriculum with core standards

The Common Core State Standards in Utah are ushering in a new era of math education in which teachers no longer will rely on memorization and rote learning and instead will challenge students to apply math concepts to real-life situations, education officials say. Students also will begin seeing math concepts, such as algebra and geometry, embedded in all subjects throughout all grade levels.
