Wash. city council discusses surveillance-equipment legislation

The Seattle City Council is considering legislation that would require city departments to draft rules for use of surveillance equipment and attain council approval before purchase. The move comes after the council discovered that the Police Department purchased drones and installed surveillance equipment at the waterfront without notifying the public. An official proposal is expected this month.
