Préval visits U.S. to plot aid requests

Haitian President René Préval is working frantically to complete a blueprint outlining aid expenditures before a UN conference where it will likely ask for record-breaking aid commitments. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said that despite progress, a great deal of work is still required to alleviate suffering before beginning the preliminary stages of rebuilding efforts. Congressional staffers expect the Obama administration to ask for an aid package totaling between $1 billion and $3 billion in the next few weeks.
