Macon, Ga., Mayor Robert Reichert advocated high-speed rail for the Southeast, given the region's projected rapid population growth. Federal funds have been allocated to construct high-speed rail in Florida and North Carolina, but no links are planned for Georgia or South Carolina. Georgia is in the early stages of planning passenger railways.
