ACG updates guidelines for GERD treatment

The ACG has issued updated treatment guidelines for gastroesophageal reflux disease, and the document has been published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology. The authors recommended against advising patients to avoid specific foods or drinks to prevent GERD, saying data do not show the strategy works, and they warned that use of proton pump inhibitors raises the risk of Clostridium difficile infection and pneumonia in short-term users.
