DTC ads for statins may hit home with the wrong patients

People who had seen television ads for statin drugs to lower cholesterol were more likely than those who had not seen such ads to be diagnosed with high cholesterol and to be prescribed the drugs, a study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine found. Most of those patients were at low risk for heart disease; patients at high risk were not more likely to seek testing and treatment, the study found.
