FTC seeks to protect consumers from "cramming"

The Federal Trade Commission on Friday urged all companies in the mobile-payment chain to protect consumers against fraudulent or inaccurate billing practices, saying they should not leave it up to consumers to find mistakes on their bills. "An effective strategy requires participation by all entities involved in third-party bills -- including mobile carriers, billing aggregators, and payment processors," the agency wrote in a new report. The FTC also wants companies to make their policies more transparent to subscribers.
