Janssen invests $5.4M, partners with foundations on MS

Janssen Research & Development will invest $5.4 million in Orion Bionetworks, a partnership between data analytics company GNS Healthcare and patient groups to find the genetic and biologic causes of multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases. The Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis, the Institute for Neurosciences at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, PatientsLikeMe, the Marin Community Foundation’s Multiple Sclerosis Project Fund and One Mind for Research are alliance members. Orion researchers will integrate clinical, biomarker and imaging data with data from more than 7,000 MS patients to form a causal computational disease model, with an eye toward optimizing treatments and finding more effective therapies.
