FDA issues new warning on misuse of UCB cough drug

The FDA on Tuesday released a new warning on the potentially lethal side effects of misusing Tussionex Pennkinetic Extended-Release Suspension, a cough treatment manufactured by UCB S.A. The agency received reports of health problems and deaths in children and adults who took the drug, which contains hydrocodone, a narcotic pain reliever. "The FDA's alert is fully in line with our efforts to make sure this product is properly used," a UCB spokewoman said.
