Electric roads keep eco-buses on track

Forget plug-in hybrids -- the next generation of electric vehicles could suck their energy directly from the roads they drive over. South Korean researchers have developed a prototype electric tram that magnetically draws energy from electric strips buried in the road surface, eliminating the need for big batteries or recharging pit stops. "The potential ... is limitless," said Suh Nam-Pyo, president of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. "I dare say this is one of the most significant technical gains in the 21st century."
