Injuries and fatalities at crossings drop sharply

Injuries and fatalities on highway-rail grade crossings declined to record lows last year, according to data from the Federal Railroad Administration. Although freight traffic and highway driving also were down, Operation Lifesaver affirmed that cooperation between law enforcement and railroads, plus safety upgrades to crossings, helped reduce accidents.
