New version of VA EHR system would link with NHIN

The Department of Veterans Affairs said it is working on the latest version of its VistA electronic medical record system. Called Aviva, the new system would be modular, Web-based and interoperable with other EMR systems and agencies using Nationwide Health Information Network-based standards. "Effectively what we are trying to do is replace a tin can on a string with a cell phone system," said Peter Levin, VA's chief technology officer.
