Study examines MRSA infections in preterm babies

Researchers looked at the morbidity and mortality of 8,444 very low birth weight babies and found an estimated 1% of them had methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections. Of the 316 Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia and/or meningitis cases, 28% were MRSA and 72% were methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus, according to the study published in the journal Pediatrics.
