Senator introduces bills for advanced O&P research

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., is introducing two bills to fund orthotics and prosthetics research to help wounded combat veterans. The Wounded Warrior Workforce Enhancement Act proposes university grants for master's programs in O&P that would require students to rotate through either Defense Department or Veteran Affairs facilities. It would also require the VA to establish a Center of Excellence to disseminate evidence-based O&P research. The Wounded Warrior Research Enhancement Act would encourage prosthetic research so that physicians can match patients with the best possible devices.
