APS is working to expand safety, security of Ariz. nuclear plant

Arizona Public Service has come up with measures to expand the safety of its Palo Verde nuclear plant in Arizona in the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi incident in Japan, writes Don Brandt, chairman and CEO of APS. The company has purchased more on-site fire trucks, portable generators and pumps, and it is working closely with other nuclear plant operators to make sure that accident-management guidelines are consistent. "Here in Arizona, the safety and security of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station has always been -- and will always be -- a top priority," Brandt writes.
