Judge allows private-equity antitrust lawsuit to proceed

U.S. District Judge Edward Harrington has refused to dismiss a lawsuit against 11 major private-equity firms and banks that accuses them of violating antitrust law by colluding to restrict competition. The claim relates to leveraged buyouts from 2003 to 2007, including Hospital Corporation of America, Target, Neiman Marcus, Kinder Morgan and Michaels Stores.
