About 40% of social-network users say they've been surprised to discover their friends' true political views through their tweets and Facebook postings, a Pew report finds. That's actually a relatively low number, and perhaps suggests that the diversity of political views on Facebook leads people to avoid talking too much about their views for fear of offending one another, Megan Garber writes.
