How can maths lessons be improved in England?

Engagement in maths lessons among students in England would improve if they were taught maths by using it, instead of through abstract concepts, according to Professor Dave Pratt of the Institute of Education. Pratt also recommends teachers increasingly use technology-based instructional methods to teach maths. The suggestions come as recent data reveal that many adults have only primary-school maths abilities.
