AT&T and IBM are preparing to take the wraps off separate innovations involving high-speed data transmission. AT&T is boasting a modulation technique that relies on wavelength-division multiplexing to deliver data across 12,000 kilometers at speeds of 400 Gbps. Big Blue is thinking smaller, with 24-milliwatt laser technology to deliver data between computer components at speeds of 25 Gbps.
