Biomarker aids diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer

Circulating tumor DNA may be a better indicator of metastatic breast cancer than circulating tumor cells or cancer antigen 15-3. Circulating tumor DNA allowed for the detection of 29 of 30 cases, researchers said, and the biomarker provided the earliest measure of response to therapy. The research was reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.
