Focus groups have revealed that viewers of NBC's "Today" show have lost their strong "connection" with host Matt Lauer, according to sources. The badly handled departure of co-host Ann Curry has only exacerbated that disconnect and harmed the prospects of the show recovering its top morning rating, observers say. Now Lauer's current contract, running through 2014, is expected to be his last.
