Policy experts say family doctors are leaders in health reform

The switch to value-based health care will allow family physicians to drive systemic changes in payment and delivery systems, health policy experts representing both political parties said during a briefing for AAFP Board members. Breakaway Policy Strategies CEO Dean Rosen, who presented the Republican perspective, said efforts to replace the sustainable growth rate payment formula have created opportunities to promote the patient-centered medical home model and other innovations. "You have been huge intellectual leaders in furthering medical homes and accountable care organizations," Rosen told the board.
