Robust wind sector helps drive Texas' economy, experts say

Texas leads the U.S. in wind power capacity and would be No. 6 in the world if it was an independent country, according to data from the American Wind Energy Association. Texas has 12,000 megawatts of installed wind power capacity, representing $20 billion in investments, said Elizabeth Salerno, AWEA's chief economist and director of data and analysis. "What many people do not understand is wind is a real power industry, and it is growing," said Matt Guyette, chief marketing and strategy officer at GE Renewable Energy.
