Dearth of credit continues to hurt small businesses

Despite consistent sales and solid credit ratings, many small businesses are still finding it hard to get loans from risk-averse banks. Top policymakers in the White House, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and the Federal Reserve have urged banks to lend to small businesses, but closer to the ground, some bank inspectors are still tightening lending standards.
