PET has limitations in assessing PALN metastasis in cervical cancer

Korean researchers who evaluated 10 studies to determine the diagnostic value of PET and PET/CT in identifying para-aortic lymph node metastasis in cervical cancer found the method is useful in confirming metastasis but not in ruling out the disease. "PET or PET/CT for the assessment of para-aortic lymph node metastasis is acceptable when it is performed in the population with a high prevalence of PALN metastasis," but not in the population with a low prevalence of the disease, the researchers concluded.
