Food companies are hungry for snacks

With experts predicting a continued trend away from sit-down meals and toward snacks instead, manufacturers -- including ConAgra Foods, Kellogg, Kraft Foods and General Mills -- are introducing snacks and acquiring snack companies. Among advantages of the snack market are that prices can be increased more readily than with staple food and snack habits worldwide are relatively new and not as culturally varied as meal habits.
